Delhi Public School Bokaro is all set to host a grand sporting event as the four-day CBSE Cluster-3 Inter-School Basketball Tournament begins on Tuesday, September 24, at its campus. The tournament, which will run until September 27, will see participation from around 1200 athletes from 64 CBSE-affiliated schools across Jharkhand and Bihar. Teams excelling at this cluster level will qualify for the CBSE National Tournament. The national-level competition for the girls’ category is scheduled from October 9-13 in Indore (Madhya Pradesh), while the boys’ category will be held from October 14-20 in Agra (Uttar Pradesh).
During a press conference on Monday, DPS Bokaro’s Principal and Chairman of the Tournament Organizing Committee, Dr. A.S. Gangwar, shared details about the upcoming event. He expressed pride that DPS Bokaro was chosen to host such a significant tournament, highlighting that all preparations for a grand, historic, and successful event have been completed. The entire school staff is committed to ensuring the event’s success, with accommodations, food, and all necessary facilities for the athletes arranged within the school premises. The participants began arriving early on Monday.
Dr. Gangwar further informed that the tournament will be held in three age categories: Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19. A total of 121 teams will compete, including 19 boys’ and 14 girls’ teams in the Under-14 category, 31 boys’ and 16 girls’ teams in the Under-17 category, and 24 boys’ and 17 girls’ teams in the Under-19 category. Matches will be played on three basketball courts within the school, with 25-30 matches scheduled daily, culminating in a total of 116 matches throughout the tournament. Participants from various districts across Jharkhand and Bihar, including Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Patna, Gopalganj, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Jamshedpur, Purnia, Katihar, Munger, Buxar, Siwan, Darbhanga, and Lohardaga, will showcase their talents.

The tournament will be officially inaugurated at 9:00 AM on September 24, with a grand ceremony. The chief guest for the opening ceremony will be former Olympian and President of the Jharkhand Basketball Association, Harbhajan Singh. Satbir Singh Sahota, an international cyclist and official for the Special Olympics, will attend as a guest of honor. The closing ceremony will take place in the afternoon of September 27, where the winning teams will be awarded prizes. The chief guest for the closing ceremony will be Umakant Singh, coach of the Indian Girls’ Basketball Team.
It is noteworthy that this CBSE Cluster-level competition is held annually, with last year’s event hosted in Jamshedpur.
In addition to Principal Dr. Gangwar, the press conference was attended by the Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Vice Principal of DPS Bokaro, Mr. Anjani Bhushan, Vice Principals Ms. Manisha Sharma and Ms. Shalini Sharma, and Organizing Secretary and Senior Sports Teacher Mr. Brajesh Kumar Singh.
