A tragic accident took place at Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) on Tuesday, in which four workers got caught in the fire. The accident occurred when an oil drum suddenly caught fire in the ROT section of the hot strip mill. Four laborers were injured in the fire, out of which the condition of two is said to be critical.
According to sources, this accident happened when some workers were busy in their work and suddenly a fire broke out in the oil drum. The workers caught in the fire were immediately taken to Bokaro General Hospital (BGH). All four workers were given first aid at the hospital, out of which two had minor injuries and were discharged after treatment. Two seriously injured workers, Razak Ansari (Senior Technician, HMM) and Vijay Thakur (contract worker, AK Construction), are undergoing treatment at the burn unit of BGH. According to doctors, the condition of both is critical and they have been kept under special care.
Soon after the accident, Bokaro Steel Plant officials have ordered an investigation into the incident. According to initial reports, safety standards were not followed near the oil drum, leading to the accident. After this incident, there is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the plant employees, and questions are being raised on the security arrangements.
BSL management has expressed deep sorrow over this accident and has assured all possible help to the families of the victim workers. The management said that after investigating the incident, strict action will be taken against the culprits.
This accident raises serious questions on the safety standards at Bokaro Steel Plant, because such accidents have happened here before also. Labor unions have strongly condemned the incident and demanded further strengthening of safety measures at the plant. After the accident, instructions have been issued to all the employees of the plant to strictly follow the safety guidelines.
