Bulletin India.
In a shocking revelation, 53 commonly used drugs, including paracetamol, have failed quality tests conducted by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). The list, published by the Indian drug regulator on its official website, includes several critical medicines like calcium and vitamin D-3 supplements, diabetes medications, and drugs for hypertension.
The CDSCO regularly tests various drug samples to ensure their quality. This round of testing included widely prescribed drugs such as Vitamin C and D-3 tablets (Shelcal), Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C soft gels, antacid Pan-D, Paracetamol 500 mg, diabetes drug Glimepiride, and hypertension drug Telmisartan. All of these medications have failed to meet the required quality standards.
Some of these drugs were manufactured by well-known pharmaceutical companies, including Hetero Drugs, Alkem Laboratories, and Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL). This report has raised concerns in the medical community, as many of these medicines are commonly used for everyday illnesses.
Concerns in the Healthcare Sector
In light of this revelation, medical experts have advised consumers to be cautious about using these medications. The government is expected to take appropriate action against the manufacturers of the failed drugs.
