Santosh Kumar Gangwar becomes the 12th Governor of Jharkhand

Former Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar was sworn in as the 12th Governor of Jharkhand on Wednesday. Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Sujit Narayan Prasad administered the oath to him. On this occasion, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chief Secretary L. Khiangte, other ministers and several dignitaries were present.

Gangwar (76) was handed over to C.P. Radhakrishnan has been made the Governor of Jharkhand in place of Radhakrishnan, while Radhakrishnan has been appointed the Governor of Maharashtra.

Mr. Gangwar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Central Government on being appointed Governor and said that he is very happy to come to the land of tribal leader Birsa Munda. He said, “This state will establish its own unique identity in the country and reach the pinnacle of development with its rich resources. I am sure that Jharkhand will progress under the leadership of Hemant Soren.”

Political journey :-

Gangwar’s political journey began in 1984 when he lost to Congress candidate Abida Begum, wife of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. After this he again contested the Lok Sabha elections in 1989 and became MP for the first time. He was victorious in the Lok Sabha elections from 1989 to 2019. However, in 2009, he had to face defeat from Praveen Singh Airan of Congress.

Experience :-

Gangwar has been an eight-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Raili Lok Sabha seat. BJP had not given him a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections, but Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had said that he would be given new responsibility.
