In response to the brutal rape and murder of a female resident doctor in Kolkata, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) announced a 24-hour nationwide strike on August 17. Doctors across the country have joined the strike, halting work in both small and large hospitals. As part of this protest, doctors from all private hospitals in Ranchi organized a joint demonstration. Members of JDA, RIMS, IMA, JHASA, RDA, CIP, and AHPI marched from the RIMS campus to the IMA building, where they continued their protest.
The protest has also extended to Jharkhand’s largest government hospital, RIMS, where doctors are actively participating in the strike. Expressing their anger, doctors emphasized that such heinous crimes should never happen again. They demanded the immediate arrest and execution of the perpetrator, calling for swift justice to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Female doctors working at RIMS spoke to the media, expressing their grief and frustration. They stated that they were deeply disturbed by the incident, as it involved a young female doctor who was dedicated to helping others day and night. The doctors urged the government to take strict action and ensure that the culprit receives the death penalty.
